& SATURDAY, JULY 11 — 12, 2008
The
37th Annual Workshop of the South Carolina Genealogical Society
will be held Friday and Saturday, July 11th – 12th, at
the South Carolina Archives and
Friday’s
sessions will begin at 11:00 a.m. with a “Hands-on Tour” of the Archives
Search Room by Steve Tuttle. Friday afternoon speakers and sessions include:
Chief Ralph Justice (Sumter Catawba Indians); Charles Andrews (Understanding
Old Plats); Shirley Gage Hodges (2 sessions: Little Known Facts about the
Census and Wither Thou Goest: Tracing our Female Ancestors); John H. Smith
(The Lost Years: NC Records for African American Research between Emancipation
& the 1870 Federal Census); Greg Matthews (Googling and Genealogy); and
Bennett Greenspan (DNA Testing: Why is it important?). A Speakers’ Reception
will be held on Friday evening from 7:00 – 8:00 at the Marriott Courtyard,
Numerous displays featuring genealogical books, software, maps, charts, and information from all areas of the state will also be featured.
The
cost of pre-registration is $25.00 for S.C.G.S. members and $30.00 for
non-members. A catered lunch on
Saturday is offered for an additional $10.50.
Registration the day of the event is an additional $5.00.
