will be held Friday and Saturday, July 11th – 12th, at
the South Carolina Archives and

Search Room by Steve Tuttle. Friday afternoon speakers and sessions include:
Chief Ralph Justice (Sumter Catawba Indians); Charles Andrews (Understanding
Old Plats); Shirley Gage Hodges (2 sessions: Little Known Facts about the
Census and Wither Thou Goest: Tracing our Female Ancestors); John H. Smith
(The Lost Years: NC Records for African American Research between Emancipation
& the 1870 Federal Census); Greg Matthews (Googling and Genealogy); and
Bennett Greenspan (DNA Testing: Why is it important?). A Speakers’ Reception
will be held on Friday evening from 7:00 – 8:00 at the Marriott Courtyard,
111 Gateway Corporate Blvd.
. Saturday’s speakers and topics
include: John H. Smith (What’s New
for South Carolinians in the Southern Historical Collection at the UNC –
); Scott Wilds (Beginning Genealogy – How to get started);
Harris Bailey (Yes, you
can find your African American Ancestors before 1870); Shirley G. Hodges
(Newspapers: A Pot of Gold); Richard Fowler (Celtic & Irish Influences on
the SC Upstate); Bennett Greenspan (How do I Use the Results of DNA Testing);
and Scott Wilds (Intermediate Genealogy).
displays featuring genealogical books, software, maps, charts, and information
from all areas of the state will also be featured.
cost of pre-registration is $25.00 for S.C.G.S. members and $30.00 for
non-members. A catered lunch on
Saturday is offered for an additional $10.50.
